Prior to studying Chinese Medicine, Miriam received her Bachelor’s degree in English from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, CA. Miriam was an elementary school teacher for the Los Angeles Unified School District for many years. She decided to relocate to New York City and accepted a position as the Director of Counseling at Parkmed Women’s Medical Facility where she counseled women on their reproductive health. During this time, Miriam was introduced by colleagues to Chinese Medicine which changed her life. She was compelled to learn more about Eastern Medicine theories after she found solutions to her own women’s health issues that were never well understood or treated by allopathic medicine. It was empowering to finally have clear, realistic and obtainable paths to health. It was at this point that Miriam felt the need to continue her studies enabling her to offer treatments to help others.
As a mother, teacher, counselor and nurturer by nature, Miriam effortlessly found her calling as a practitioner of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine. Miriam emphasizes the importance of communication between the patient and the practitioner. Before any treatment protocols are implemented, Miriam takes the time to listen with empathy to her patients and together as a team, find a comfortable and an attainable path to achieve their health goals. She always ensures the safety and well-being of her patients as she introduces Chinese medicine protocols including acupuncture, Tui Na bodywork, moxibustion (moxa), and Chinese herbs. Miriam’s goal is for patients to become active participants in their healing process and gently advises and guides them with simple changes to their diet and lifestyle that can provide empowerment over their own health.
